It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Victor Smith on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Peterborough Regional Health Centre, after a battle with cancer at the age of 60. In his last moments, he was surrounded with love from family and friends.
Vic will be remembered for his unwavering positive outlook on life and his creative spirit. He was a jack of all trades, able to build or repair almost anything. He thrived on restoring items and passing on his knowledge and skills. He lived an uncomplicated life by the Otonabee River with his dog, where he enjoyed canoeing, gardening, bicycling and the company of his many friends and family. The time spent with his daughters and nephew teaching them both practical skills as well as nurturing a strong moral character and integrity is his great legacy.
He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters Sarah and Tawnya Best, nephew Adam Heffernan; siblings, Gail Perras (Paul), Lorraine Twist (Terry), Brad Smith (Lorna) and grandchildren Keegan, Dillon, Violet and Isabella. He is remembered by his nieces and nephews as their Uncle who always had a playful glint in his eye and incited laughter wherever he went. Vic is also remembered by his good friends Fred and Pauline Jones, Paul and Kim Tarkington, Doug and Lana Lowry, Dale Brand and Brian and Sue Turner. He is pre-deceased by his parents, Don Smith and Ann Innes (Conroy).
Our family would like to thank Dr Bartlett and Sharon, Hospice, the Palliative care team, Dr. Matheson, the wonderful nurses in the palliative unit and all his many friends who showed their love and support till the end.
Vic’s wishes were that a service would not be held and donations could be made to Hospice Peterborough, Ontario in his memory.
