John Cunningham has been an Ontario licensed funeral director since 1985.  He is the Owner and Managing Funeral Director of Community Alternative Funeral Home, and Ashburnham Funeral Home, both located in Peterborough.  John’s father’s family settled in the Warsaw area in 1831 and his mother’s family has been providing funeral services to Ontarians for 5 generations.

John earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Wilfrid Laurier University and a Diploma with Honours in Funeral Service Education from Humber College.  In April of 2014, John became one of a very few funeral directors in Canada to earn the designation of Certified Funeral Service Practitioner.  He is a Past President of the Bay of Quinte Funeral Service Association, a Past Chair of Guaranteed Funeral Deposits of Canada, and has been a member of the Peterborough Chamber of Commerce for the last 10 years.  He is a current member of the Peterborough Estate Planning Council and the Bereavement Ontario Network

Volunteer activities have included Rotary, Caring in Action, James Strath School Council, Liftlock New Horizons Band, and Activity Haven.  John speaks to many groups throughout the year about various topics relating to funeral service.

In his spare time, John plays electric bass with a local blues band, and tuba with the Peterborough Concert Band and the Liftlock New Horizons Band.

Gary earned his Funeral Director's License in 1960 and spent the early part of his career as a funeral director in the City of Peterborough.  Gary went on to a very successful career in private business as the founder of Stewart Travel.  He served as Peterborough County Warden for three terms, followed by two terms as MPP for Peterborough Riding and Cabinet Minister in the Ontario Government.

In addition to serving families in need at Ashburnham Funeral Home & Reception Centre, Gary is very active in our community.

Bruce Lindsay has been a licensed funeral director in Ontario since 1997, and has served the Peterborough community for most of those years.  Bruce moved to the Peterborough area when his children were young to offer them a wonderful place to grow up. 


Bruce earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toronto, and Diploma with Honours in Funeral Service Education from Humber College.  To further his education, Bruce worked with the Board of Funeral Services as a Practical Examiner for over ten years.  He is a 15 year member of Toastmasters, earned the Distinguished Toastmaster Award and other public speaking awards including a Provincial Humour Speech Championship.

Bruce has earned qualifications as a Canoe Instructor, Canoe Trip Leader and is certified in Wilderness First Aid through ORCKA.  He writes songs, plays the banjo and has recorded two CDs that can sometimes be heard on Trent Radio.  Bruce also referees local soccer and Coaches football with the KMFL.

Laura received her Funeral Director's license in July 2012 with honours. She has recently moved from Scarborough to settle down in Peterborough with and around her family.

In her spare time, she enjoys camping, travelling and socializing.

After enjoying a career extending over three decades as a professional graphic artist, Bob joined our firm in 2013. Bob is an Honours Graduate of Humber College and became a Licensed Funeral Director January 1, 2015. Bob is the proud recipient of two awards recognizing his skills in the program and dedication to the profession.

Bob was born in Peterborough, and has spent some time living and working in Toronto and London, Ontario. He is an accomplished photographer, stained glass artist and creative writer. He feels most at home when engaging in outdoor activities such as camping, canoeing, boating, and skiing.

He is a great supporter of community events, and has had the privilege of volunteering his time on the boards of the Kawartha Lakes Chamber of Commerce and Bereaved Families of Ontario (Peterborough Chapter), and the Marketing Committee for The Ontario Speed Skating Oval in Lakefield.

Caitlin is a recent Honours Graduate of Humber College - Funeral Service Education, and earned her Funeral Director’s Class 1 license in July of 2017. Caitlin also earned a Diploma in Fashion Design from Fanshawe College. She comes from a line of Southwestern Ontario farmers and has extended her horizons to the funeral profession to give back to the community in a meaningful way with integrity.

Outside of work, Caitlin is a book club member, and enjoys volunteering to sew costumes for the Peterborough Theatre Guild.

Tim loves to work in the community and has a deep understanding that everyone should make final arrangements long before they are needed.

Tim has over 25 years of customer service experience. He holds a Bachelor degree

from Brock University, is an honours graduate from Humber College in Funeral Pre-Planning, and various professional certificates from York University’s Schulich School of Business.

Tim has been working in the Funeral Service business since 2010 and became a licensed Funeral Pre-Planner in 2015. With his strong personal and business ethics and an unwavering commitment to excellence, Tim’s guiding principles are a passion to serve client families with sincerity and clarity.

In his spare time, Tim enjoys various water sports, skiing, reading and cheering on the Petes.
