George Carruthers Farquharson (April 5th 1925 - Sept 28th 2018)
Passed away peacefully after a great run.
Doting husband to Jacqueline Marie (Ames) for 60 years. The most loving, kind, empathetic, warm and gentle father to Cindy MacPherson (Don), Tim (Jen), Susan Vass (Len) and Sara Trafford (Mark) and many of their friends. Sweetest and most adored Papa ever to 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. The grandchildren would await his call for the “joke of the day” and call him with their “joke of the day” when it was a seam splitter. Predeceased by father Percy (at a very young age) and his mother Raechel whom he worshipped and carried with him his entire life, siblings Robert, Billy, Douglas, Jack, Ida and Gordon who he loved and cherished and missed after each ones passing. Dad was a wonderful Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Papa was the heart and soul of our family whose wisdom and caring for others shone in every room he entered and every conversation he was part of. Growing up, our doors were always open, everyone was welcome; friend or stranger and all were equal. He was the world’s cheerleader, an engaged listener who was quiet and humble - never wanting praise or thanks. He led a selfless life, with none of us having recollection of him doing anything for himself. Family is what he cherished most and he exuded warmth and interest in others at any gathering or event. Dad loved being in the background watching the beautiful dance of life appear before him. He needed no attention but was always concerned about anyone left alone or seeming out of place. His favourite place to be was at “the farm” with the warmth and love of God’s greatest gifts of nature and those he held closest to his heart. His spirit lives on and is expressed in every act of kindness, smile to someone who really needs it, every gentle word and every helping hand. He was our hero and the world was blessed to have been touched by his grace.
A special Thank you to St. Josephs at Fleming for their care and compassion and also to Trudy his devoted caregiver and “angel” who was sent from the heavens to look after him and Mom. We are truly blessed.
Cremation entrusted to Community Alternative Funeral Home. A private family celebration of a wonderful life at “the farm” will be held at a later date as per Dad’s request. In lieu of donations as George would always say, “Be kind to one another.”
