Joan, loving wife of Wayne MacDonald for 57 years and wonderful mother to Robin (Ted), Kirk (Terri) and Jeff (Lori.) Proud Nanny of her 8 grandchildren Cameron, Jack, Andrew, Isaac, Rachel, Carson, Owen and Ingrid.
Joan was born and raised in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. After working at the Montreal Neurological Institute as an X-Ray technician she moved to Peterborough in 1968 to raise her family. Joan loved children and so she volunteered as a teaching assistant in the kindergarten classes at Westmount Public School for more than 10 years. With her strong desire to give back, Joan volunteered with Meals on Wheels, at the Crestwood High School library, was an active member at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, and was often found reading for the blind.
Joan will be deeply missed by her 4 siblings – Bob, Bill, Betty and Linda, her sisters-in-law Jill and Margo, and her many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the team at Fairhaven and Princess Gardens for their care and compassion. Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life for Joan at Emmanuel United Church, 534 George Street North, Peterborough on Thursday June 6th, 2019 at 11am. Reception to follow.
